Step 1: Visit the IRS Website
Start by visiting the IRS Online Payment Agreement Application. This official portal allows you to access various IRS services, including pulling your transcripts.
- Go to the IRS Website: Open your web browser and navigate to the IRS website.
- Click the Apply/Review Now Button: On the page, locate the blue button labeled “Apply/Review Now” and click on it.
Step 2: Access Your Account or Create a New One
Once you click the button, you’ll be prompted to log in to your IRS account. If you already have an account, enter your credentials. If not, you’ll need to create one.
- Create an Account: If you don’t have an IRS account, click the “Create an Account” link. Follow the instructions to provide your personal information and verify your identity.
- ID Verification: The IRS uses a verification process through ID.me. You will be asked to enter your personal information and verify your identity by receiving a code on your mobile phone.
- Log In: After verifying your identity, log in with your newly created credentials.
Step 3: Navigate to Your Tax Records
Once you have successfully logged in, you will be taken to your account dashboard. Here, it would be best to navigate to the section where you can view your tax records.
- Access the Individual Online Account: Click on the “Individual Online Account” section.
- View Tax Records: Look for the “View Tax Records” button or the “Tax Records” tab and click on it.
- Get Transcripts: Find and select the “Get Transcripts” option.
Step 4: Select the Type of Transcript
At this point, you’ll find yourself on the page where you can choose the type of transcript you need. The IRS provides different types of transcripts, each serving a specific purpose.
Select Reason for Transcript: You will be asked to select a reason for needing the transcript. Choose “Federal Tax” as your reason.
Transcript Types:
- Wage and Income Transcripts: These show your W2, 1099, and other income information reported to the IRS. It’s useful if you need to verify your income or if some tax documents are missing.
- Account Transcripts: These provide year-by-year details of what you owe, including penalties and interest, and show other transactions with the IRS. They are helpful if you need to understand your tax balance and payment history.
- Return Transcripts offer a summary of your tax return information, including most of the line items. They are often used for loan applications or to validate income.
- Record of Account Transcripts: These combine both return and account transcripts, providing a comprehensive view of your tax history.
Step 5: Request and Download Your Transcript
After selecting the type of transcript, proceed to request and download it.
- No Customer File Number Needed: You can leave the “Customer File Number” field blank and click the “Go” button.
- Select the Year: Click on the year for which you need the transcript. The transcript will open in a new window.
- Download the Transcript: Save the transcript as a PDF file on your computer.
Step 6: Send the Transcript to Us
Once you have downloaded your transcript, the final step is to upload it into your Intuit Link.
